About Jessie Cockerham

Hello, my is Jessie Cockerham, LCSWA. I have been a social worker for the past 6 years, where I have worked with teenagers, young adults, adults, and with those coming to end of life. I graduated from the only joint master program in the country between UNCG and A&T.  In my experience I have worked with people who are chronically suicidal, those with chronic pain, people with anxiety and depression, people who struggle with varying types of traumas, those struggling with mood disorders, those struggling with dissociation, and people who have depression and anxiety.

I see the therapeutic process as an engagement between two people, where a relationship is built. In that relationship we work together to solves life's curve balls. Whether that be life transitions, death of a loved one, or stressful life events that are hard to handle alone. People tend to seek me out for struggles in understanding trauma and how it affects them. When it comes to trauma I specialize in sexual and religious trauma, however no stressful event is something we cannot tackle together. I strive to create a decolonized and safe environment for people who deal with oppression, microaggressions, or feel marginalized by society.

As a therapist I see the important of starting the healing process with where you are. Rather that be working through triggers in public, understanding your struggles with gender identify and/or sexual orientation, finding ways to combat fatigue, finding ways to deal with unwanted behaviors, or working through the struggles of the different roles in your life. We will work together to improve life as you see fit!
