About Kimberly Brummell

Dr. Kimberly Brummell is originally from Pasadena, California, and is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned her medical degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and completed psychiatry residency at Harvard’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. During her final year of residency, she also completed a fellowship in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute.

Dr. Brummell has experience treating a wide range of psychiatric conditions across diverse clinical settings, including inpatient psychiatry for both children and adults, emergency psychiatry, consult-liaison psychiatry, addiction and detox services, and partial hospitalization programs. She has particular interests in traumatic stress disorders, including complex trauma and dissociation, as well as perinatal mood and adjustment disorders. She also enjoys teaching and has supervised both Harvard Medical School students and psychiatry residents. Throughout her training and practice, she has developed a deep appreciation for the transformative potential of thoughtful, collaborative psychotherapy.

In her clinical work, Dr. Brummell takes pride in her ability to listen deeply and approach patients with genuine curiosity, compassion, and respect. She believes that psychiatric treatment is most effective when it is grounded in a strong physician-patient relationship and tailored to the unique needs of the individual. Her approach emphasizes understanding symptoms within their broader context, including the historical, relational, and current life experiences that contribute to distress. She views treatment as a partnership, and works collaboratively with patients to identify obstacles to growth while drawing on evidence-based medicine, creativity, and humor. She aims to help patients achieve meaningful symptom relief while fostering greater self-understanding and psychological well-being.

Outside of work, Dr. Brummell enjoys trying new foods, learning to play the piano, crafting, and spending time with loved ones.
