About Alanie O’Dell

Hi! My name is Alanie O’Dell. I am an associate-licensed therapist, with over 5 years experience working with individuals, couples and families in the broader social work field. I earned my Masters in Social Work (MSW) at UNC Charlotte and my undergraduate degrees at UNC Chapel Hill (Go Heels!).

As a clinician, I am particularly passionate about working with adult individuals in navigating life transitions, relationship issues, perinatal and postpartum experiences, domestic violence and abusive relationships, as well as women’s mental health needs. I am passionate about trauma-work and believe that processing and overcoming life’s hardest moments is where we can begin to thrive.

In our work together, I draw from several approaches, including a person-centered approach. Essentially, I recognize you are the expert and we are navigating the therapy room together. I also derive practice from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapy, and Feminist Therapy. I am also seeking Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) certification, meaning that I can utilize this evidenced-based modality when reprocessing trauma.

Outside of the therapy space, I enjoy showing up as a dog mom, sister, and friend. I like to spend time outdoors, try new restaurants and coffee shops, and am an avid football fan. These areas of my life “fill my cup,” which allow me to show up more fully inside the therapy room.
