About Tyler Young

Tyler Young (they/he), graduated with a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Appalachian State University after previously receiving a bachelor’s in Psychology from Appalachian State University as well.

Tyler works with a variety of younger and older adult ages and a variety of gender identities and expressions. They have experience working with adjustment concerns, anxiety, depression, and trauma-related disorders. As a nonbinary counselor, they also have experience working with a variety of LGBTQIA+ patients and sexuality or gender related needs and concerns.

They believe that counseling happens when a relationship is built between the therapist and the client and works to foster a safe, warm, equal, and trusting environment in the therapeutic space and relationship. They utilize Feminist and Person-Centered counseling theories to not only meet you exactly where you’re at in each moment, but to understand your lived experience, build personal power and strength in community, and to help understand the way the systems in your life impact you and can either benefit or harm therapeutic progress. They also lean on Cognitive and Dialectical Behavior Therapies to help clients connect to themselves, practice Mindfulness, and work to understand and change their thoughts to make change in their behaviors.

Tyler also loves swimming, D&D, crafting, sewing, music, and board games.
