About Gabriela Dwyer
I am an associate-level therapist and received my Master of Social Work from UNC Chapel Hill. Through my experience working in both private practice and community mental health settings, I have worked with children, teens and adults navigating various mental health challenges including anxiety, depression, LGBTQ+ identity exploration, eating disorders, life transitions, ADHD, PTSD, and interpersonal violence. I welcome teen and adult clients of all backgrounds. I have a strong passion for working with queer and trans people of color (QTPOC) who are looking to explore parts of their identity.
The identities we hold are essential to who we are and how we navigate the world. Exploring and accepting all parts of ourselves helps to empower us as we navigate life. We all hold the tools, skills, and power to be our authentic selves and achieve our goals. I aim to create a safe, empathetic, and empowering climate to explore the tools and skills you already have and to help you discover new ones. Together, we can break down challenges, so they feel more manageable. I will meet you where you are on your journey and together, we will incorporate various strategies to help you continue to grow and navigate life. I incorporate Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Narrative Therapy, and somatic-based approaches based on your needs and goals.
Outside of work I enjoy visiting local thrift shops, spending time with friends and family (including my cat), and finding local live music. I also enjoy spending time in nature, especially at the beach!
