About Marlyn Bernardo

Hi, my name is Marlyn Bernardo. I am a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with nearly a decade of experience in the field of mental health. I earned my Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Nursing from North Carolina A&T State University. From there, I continued my education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where I completed my advanced training as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I began my career in psychiatry in 2018. I have cared for children and adolescents, adults, and older adults across a variety of psychiatric settings. Throughout my career, I have also enjoyed mentoring and educating newer nurses, helping them develop the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to provide safe, compassionate care to individuals experiencing mental health challenges.

My primary clinical interests include the assessment and treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), behavioral disorders, depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, trauma-related conditions, psychotic disorders, and other common mental health concerns across the lifespan. I believe mental health care should be collaborative, individualized, and grounded in trust. I strive to create a welcoming environment where clients feel comfortable sharing their experiences and are empowered to participate in decisions about their care.

Born and raised in the Caribbean, I value the importance of culture, family, community, and connection. Outside of my professional role, I am a proud mother and enjoy spending meaningful time with my family. I enjoy getting to know the people around me and hearing the stories that make each person unique.
